The Last Whino

Chicks4Change hosted another classic event which was an intimate and exclusive wine tasting and art event to raise money for the protection of South Africa’s Rhinos.

Six winemakers with their own private labels had agreed to attend the event, including Jeremy Borg of Painted Wolf Wines, Anthony de Jager with his Homtini label, Billy Hughes with NATIVO, Trizanne Barnard with her Signature wines, Gavin Patterson from Sumaridge and Adam Mason with his Shazam! Label. All the wines were stunning and enjoyed by all that attended the event.

Saving the Whino was also the launch of the very special Variety Whino box. Jeremy Borg has put a lot of effort into collecting a selecting wine from all the above wineries and putting together an excellent box of wine where a percentage of each box is donated to Project Rhino. The box retails at R980 (R1060 including delivery) and is available to order. Please Click Here for details on how to order, and Here on more details about the Variety Whino Box.

A number of artists exhibited art and photographs in a silent auction. Artists nominated a reserve price and anything bid over an above that was donated toward Project Rhino. I would like to thank all the artists involved including Andrew Lord, Marina Erasmus-Browning, Christelle Coetzee, Rita Hatting, John Moore, David Bellamy, Angela Briggs, Nickey Silberbauer, Jean Tresfon and especially Samarie Smith with her gorgeous “I am Eddy” painting.

WINE Mag also ran a twitter line donation, where every tweet with @WINEmag and #savingthewhino they donated R5.  They made a grand total of R305 for Project Rhino. Thank you Wine Mag!

All in All it was an enjoyable evening, with guests tasting and buying wine, bidding on art and enjoying gorgeous spring rolls supplied by chef, Stephen Wessels.

I would also like to say a Big THANK YOU, to all that of you, that attended and supported country’s wildlife and heritage.

A huge thank you to everyone that helped and supported Chicks4Change in putting Saving the Whino together. As with most things there is always a lot more that goes into planning these events than meets the eye.

Special mention needs to be made of Jeremy Borg who has collected and collaborated the incredible winemakers in creating this event and The Variety Whino Box.

Katrine Claassens has been instrumental in the putting together of the silent art auction. I am such a philistine when it comes to art and I could not have done it without her.

Liz and Mark Hodges have been incredible in providing ideas, support, transport and food for an exhausted daughter. Thank you!

Thank you to Theme Creations and Michaelis Art School for providing the easels.

Chicks4Change initiative is hosting an intimate and exclusive wine tasting and art event to raise money for the protection of South Africa’s Rhinos. We have asked small, privately owned wine labels as well as local artists and photographers who are interested in supporting wildlife conservation and sustainability to participate in this event.

Guests are invited to taste these exclusive wines poured by the winemakers themselves, place bids on art exhibited by artists and photographers in a silent auction and enjoy snacks made by the chef, Stephen Wessels.

An exclusive Variety Whino box of wines tasted on the evening will be on sale. A percentage of all sale will go to Project Rhino. Straight cases of wine tasted will also be available for sale.

The event will be taking place at 7pm, May 12th 2012, at The Sugarhut Social Club located in the Old Castle Hotel which is in the new and trendy East City Precinct. Please contact us for bookings.
